Iconic hollywood films to be screened by PVR cinemas

Last week, film lovers got a rare chance to watch Orson Welles’s iconic movie Citizen Kane (1941), on the big screen. In excitement, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap even tweeted about the Thursday screening and urged many to not advertise it.

As part of the Director’s Cut Rare movie concept, PVR has
in the past screened Harischandrachi Factory (2009), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Taxi Driver (1976), Goodfellas (1990)_ nd Citizen Kane, under the timeless classics section. And now, every Thursday, many such classics as well as independent films, which have not been formally released, will be screened at the chain of the multiplex in Bangalore, Ahemdabad, Chennai, Gurgaon and Delhi, apart from Mumbai.

his month, the two films to be showcased are Millos Forman’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), which will be screened on December 8, and Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List (1993) on December 15.

“We are very excited to bring the concept of the rare film club, which will showcase vintage and classic cinema,” says Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, joint managing director, PVR Ltd.

He adds, “We wanted to offer cinegoers content- driven films, that will be engaging and entertainment. Rare movies will be showcased under this property throughout India.”
