Aug,23,2010 It may be a tad early, but the hints that actress Khushboo has dropped about venturing into politics and her love for the Congress and its leaders has already cheered many Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu. Most Congress leaders in the state feel that it will be an advantage to have a big name like Khushboo in their party, especially in view of the Assembly polls next year.The actor, who was caught in a whirlpool of controversy after making statements about pre-marital sex a few years ago, recently evinced interest to enter politics. Going a step further, the former silver screen star and now popular television show host recalled her early days in Maharashtra, saying she was inspired by watching Congress leader Sunil Dutt work like an ordinary party cadre on the streets of Mumbai.Recalling statements he had made in support of Khushboo when she was mired in controversy, former president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee E.V.K.S. Elangovan said, “I will be the first person to welcome Khushboo. The Congress is the place for progressive thoughts and free speech. For an intelligent woman like her who speaks freely about social issues, TN Congress is the place.”“Normally actors have sex appeal. But Khushboo has both brains and sex appeal,” Mr Elangovan added. Another senior state Congress leader, D. Sudarshanam, said, “Khushboo is an intelligent woman and I wholeheartedly welcome her to the party.” “The presence of a popular figure like her would definitely work to the advantage of the state party unit,” the Congress legislature party leader observed adding that it would benefit TNCC a great deal during the upcoming Assembly elections.
