G Dhananjayan appointed UTV South Chief

Moser Baer G Dhananjayan has been appointed as the Chief - South Business by the reputed media entertainment house UTV for its Motion Pictures division.

UTV had earlier distributed the small budget multiplex film ‘Poi Solla Porom’. Lately the media major co produced the Kamal Haaasn hit ‘Unnaipol Oruvan’. For the new beginning it has already acquired Selvaraghavan directed ‘Irandaam Ulagam’ and will soon take another two new films under them.

Dhananjayan was earlier with Moser Baer, where he set up their Home Entertainment and Film divisions and was instrumental in making it India’s largest Home entertainment Company.

Dhananjayan is known for his producing of meaningful films like Poo, Raman Thediya Seethai and Kanden Kathalai. Now in his new role he will strengthen UTV's southern operations, mainly acquisition and production of Tamil films.

Commenting on Dhananjayan’s appointment, Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, Motion Pictures- UTV, said, “We are confident that with the wealth of experience Dhananjayan brings to the table, he will be a valuable addition to the senior management team at UTV and will help lead our efforts to building a strong business in the regional film space, particularly in South India.

What’s missing in Mankatha?

It is a trend in Kollywood for mass heroes to have a song that speaks highly of their stature or achievements. Ajith has been following this trend since his film Dheena, which released in 2001, with the song Thalapola Varuma.

After a decade of including such songs in his films, the star has requested Venkat Prabhu, the director of Mankatha, not to go in for such a song in the film, say sources.

The talk in Kollywood is that - will Venkat take note of Ajith’s request and do away with it or include such a song for commercial viability.

Bhanu hit by rumours

She made a decent debut in ‘Thamirabarani’ opposite Vishal and acquired the title ‘Junior Nayantara’. But luck was not in favour of Bhanu as she had to disappear from the limelight all of a sudden.

“I was initially puzzled as to why I was not getting offers despite being part of a hit movie. Only after sometime I realised that it was because of a rumour,” the ‘Azhagarmalai’ actress says.

Saying that some had spread a malicious gossip that she had married a man of her choice in Kerala and quit acting, Bhanu adds, “this false news has prevented acting offers from reaching me.”

“However, I am back in Kollywood now,” she further says. “I am currently playing an important role in ‘Sattapadi Kuttram’ (directed by S A Chandrasekar). Also, I am there in a special number in Ponnar Sankar (Prashanth-starrer).”

Dev Anand’s call to Rajini

From Kajol to Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor, from Amitabh Bachchan to Rajnikanth, SRK, Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, everyone has been invited to attend the grand premiere of Dev Anand’s evergreen classic entertainer Hum Dono in color.

The stylish superstar has been personally inviting the actors from various film industries to attend the show. Especially he wants the younger generation of actors to watch the film as they would have heard about it, but never had a chance to watch as it was released 50 years back.

It is expected that almost all the invitees will attend the grand premiere along with their families, as Dev Anand shares a wonderful rapport with every one of them.

The handsome hunk Shaam who recently turned a producer with 'Agam Puram' will start his next production venture soon. The new film will also be directed by Thirumalai who is a good friend of Shaam.

Shaam's production is titled 'Thoosi'. It is based on a true life police story that happened in a place called 'Thoosi in Trichy district. Shaam will be playing the police officer.

Before starting his production, Shaam will do a film as a hero for director 'Mugavari' Durai. Shaam's role in this film is a challenging one and for a flash back sequence Shaam will reduce his weight by over 15 kilos to appear as a high school boy. Hard work indeed!

Meanwhile Shaam’s Tollywood career is also doing well as he is working in two films at the moment.
