Rajni says strict 'no'

On Thursday Superstar Rajnikanth said no awards should be named after him. The numero uno actor of South Indian cinema was speaking at the annual day function of Ashram Group of Institutions, founded by his wife Latha, in Chennai.

"I have not achieved anything big. So it is my sincere request not to give away any award in my name," said Rajni at the event, which witnessed the honouring of three big names in the film industry with 'Rajni Legend Awards'.

At the function, Rajni's mentor and Dada Saheb Phalke Award winner K Balachander, late Hindi actor Shammi Kappoor and actress Asha Parekh were honoured with Rajni Legend Awards by Latha. Following the Superstar's request, it was decided to rename the award as Balachander Legend Award from next year.

In his address, Rajini requested students to become responsible citizens and to develop themselves as multitalented personalities. A host of personalities from various fields and students of the school were honoured at the function.
