Cinemimi Team's brings to you a string of those films that made it big at the box office and brought in good revenue for its makers. It may be mentioned that there are no authentic reports in Tamil cinema for the revenue each film manages to bring in and this information is based on reliable sources. You can pen in your thoughts as well...
Aadukalam

Vetrimaaran's 'Aadukalam' which had Dhanush and Taapsee Pannu in the lead fetched the National Awards for six categories! This was also the debut film for its actress Taapsee in Tamil. The film fared well at the BO. Dhanush's special efforts with his slang for the film also paid of well.

Siruthai

'Siruthai, a remake of a Tollywood hit 'Vikramarkudu' directed by Siva starring Karthi Sivakumar and Tamannah in the lead met with good collections at the box office. This film saw Karthi in twin, contrasting avatars as that of a rogue, 'Rocket' Raja and the other as an IPS officer Rathnavel Pandian.

Ko

Movie buffs received a well-deserved summer treat from KV Anand in the form of 'Ko.' Starring Jiiva and Karthika in the lead, this film was received by the audience with open arms. Ajmal's role as a suave villain was much praised by the critics. 'Ko' went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2011. The Telugu dubbed version 'Rangam' too crossed the 100-day mark. This is undoubtedly the best commercial movie of Jiiva till date.

Avan Ivan

This venture by Bala is quite unique by itself as the film was his first ever one with mass masala elements. Vishal was accredited for playing a squint eyed person in a full fledged feature film. The movie saw the duo as half brothers who hate one another, and get together to avenge their dear one's death. 'Avan Ivan' received a good opening at all centers.

Deiva Thirumagal

During the second half of 2011 churned a film from AL Vijay which went on to linger in the minds of people long after they left the movie halls. 'Deiva Thirumagal' with Vikram helming as a mentally challenged father fighting to get back his daughter evoked a touching response from anyone who saw the film irrespective of age limit or gender. The film celebrated its 100th day and fetched very positive reviews for the entire cast and crew.

Kanchana

If you think spooky movies are just about quick camera angles and high-decibel, ear shattering screeches, think again. Raghava Lawrence directed 'Kanchana' which released as a sequel to 'Muni' had Lawrence in the lead role. The film also saw a very riveting performance by Sarathkumar in a never seen-before role of a eunuch. The film, though spooky in the beginning, progressed to capture the audience attention till the very end and also brought in good cash at the box office. It ran very well at the B and C centers as well. The film will soon be remade in Hindi...

Mankatha

Produced by Cloud Nine Movies, the expectation for this film long before it was released was very high, because it was Thala's 50th film in the industry. 'Mankatha' opened huge and got sky rocketing as days progressed. This Venkat Prabhu multi-starrer had everything to make it a hit, good music, quick screen play, great music and Thala as a baddie.

Velayudham
The festival of lights saw the release of 'Velayudham' which saw Vijay in a superhero avatar. Directed by 'Jayam' Raja 'Velayudham' had music by Vijay Anthony and ensemble star cast. The film is considered to be one of Vijay's biggest hits. 7aum Arivu
The film may not have lived up to the expectations of one and all, but we must say it pleased many especially the fans of Suriya and Murugadoss and Tamil film patrons. '7aum Arivu' saw a massive opening worldwide and received good critical acclaim for being a different venture.
Mayakkam Enna
Selvaraghavan directed 'Mayakkam Enna' released during November 2011 end. The movie saw Dhanush playing the lead and introduced Richa Gangopadhyay as heroine into Tamil cinema. The film as well as its music by GV Prakash has become a hit with the film fanatics, at the same time earning brownie points from the critics for Richa's performance. Osthi
Simbu aka STR's 'Osthi' had sky-rocketing expectations from day 1 for it's the remake of Bollywood blockbuster 'Dabangg'. Although it didn't prove to be a hit as big as the original, it made a good impact and pleased Simbu's fans and saw a good opening.
