Indian President Pratibha Patil presented the 57th National Awards to the winners in a function held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on Friday in the presence of Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni. Superstar Amitabh Bachchan bagged the best actor award for Paa, which also received the prize for Best Hindi film, Best Supporting Actress (Arundhati Nag) and Best Make-up (Christein Tinsley and Dominie Till). Ananya Chatterjee took home the Best Actress trophy for Abhonom (Bengali), which also won Rituparno Ghosh the Best Director prize. 3 Idiots was awarded the most Popular Film and Delhi 6 bagged a trophy for National Integration. Shyam Benegal's Well Done Abba was chosen as the best movie on social issues. Veteran producer Dr. D. Rama Naidu was honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke award for 2009. Mammootty's Kutty Srank won awards for best cinematography, best screenplay, best costume and a special jury recognition, which it shared with Bollywood hit Kaminey and Malayalam film Pazhassi Raja. The best audiography award was shared by Oscar winner Resool Pookutty and Amrit Pritam. Amit Trivedi got the best music director award for Dev D. The emotional number 'Behti hawa sa tha woh' from 3 Idiots bagged the best lyrics award for Swanand Kirkire. The best children's film award was given to Putaani Party (Kannada). Jeeva and Anba Karaus shared the best child actor award. Telugu film Magadheera bagged awards for special effects and choreography.
